The month of October, we focused on spotlighting different realtors that work in Minnesota. This topic came to light after a community member had an awful experience where the individual was being taken advantage of. During this process, and realizing that the home inspection revealed perfect conditions, when in fact it was the opposite, resulted in being a very overwhelmed and disappointed first time home buyer.
Long story short, this individual started a case, sued the inspector company, amongst a few other areas and WON! This realtor, company and inspection company will no longer be able to work in this field again. This individual shared this with others to learn that many had the same experience.
Deaf Equity was asked to do workshops that showcased different Realtors that are trusted "sources" of community members. Building on this resource and trusting the sources of members of our Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing community is a perfect way to keep the community safe and provided with options . All the realtors showcased know American Sign Language, all of them hire ASL Interpreters and from their testimonies, all of them were given high praise for the work they did.
This is what Empowerment is , said Migdalia Rogers, Deaf Equity Board member. Educating our community, giving them the resources and tools needed to make informed decisions in their purchases. Not to mention, access to communication. When home buyers are scammed, especially in their first experience, it disempowers them from contributing to society, to the market and the betterment of their quality of life for themselves and their families.
