Volunteers needed for Engage Change Zoom Event.

Updated: Jul 12, 2020

Engage Change events bring members together to support Transition age students, college students, and workforce students. This opportunity is also to connect with Adults and begin to foster connections that support individuals with their after high school journey.

Be honest. When you were in High School, did you have any idea what your life would be like when you graduated?

I never met a Deaf Adult until I went to College.

At three of our Engage Change Events, sponsored by National Deaf Education Center, now sponsored by Deaf Equity and community members, we learned that a majority of Deaf,DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing kids never met a Deaf Adult or role model until they went to college.

True story. One person mentioned that growing up he never knew what it would be like to be a Deaf Adult. He had no one to talk to about it. He thought perhaps he would become hearing when he got older. Others at the event, said that story is the same for them.

Deaf Equity host monthly meetings on the First Monday of the Month. The meeting take place on Zoom. The time is 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The group has three goals with this project.

  1. Engage Youth in Volunteerism.

  2. Learning Opportunities that Educate about the Real-World by Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing Adults.

  3. Network Connect. Connect young adults with community members, Seniors, and other young adults.

We need you. Volunteer and sign up to be part of this work.
